I talk a lot about inspiring children to get into the kitchen and garden from a young age over at Caro & Co. Indeed, my co-authors wrote a fabulous resource book on the subject called, Small Fry – Inspiration for being in the kitchen with kids, which you can buy here.
Children learn SO much in the first 7 years of their life. Everything is fascinating and the kitchen can be one of the most educational and informative places for a young child. Whilst it can be incredibly messy and a sometimes frustrating experience for the adult, it is the simplest way I know of teaching children to enjoy food, continually expand their palates, give them an understanding of food sources and the importance of sustainability.
We’ve lots more to share on this subject, but in the meantime enjoy a post my daughter and I wrote for The Internet Chef (aka Bridget Davis).
